ArtsATL

ArtsATL.com is a non-profit based, what's happening in the Atlanta art scene and community website. The majority of the board members were former Arts writers and contributors for the AJC back in the 1980's before it was bought out and restructured.

The interesting challenge with this build was coming up with and developing an aesthetic that mimicked the eradication of white space. Coming from newspaper backgrounds, white space was a waste of resource since a newspaper was very finite and every point of page space had value.

If you look at the design, you can see how it tries to mimic a newspapers layout.

Now, obviously in the web design world, whitespace has become a design element in its self, and mimicking a newspaper layout wouldn't be nominated for a cutting edge design award, but we worked with the client and their vision and ideas, and even though the page is extremely busy to the eye, the images of the articles and the ads does a good job of balancing everything out.

Designed and built in 2011, and has since gone though a redesign.
